In 1920 the Mount Pleasant Pigeon Club was organized. Members convened at a members garage to enter and ship birds to a release point. The race birds were taken to the railroad station to be transported to a specific railroad station 100, 150, 200, and 300 miles away. The Carondelet Train Station was convenient and the transporting train was the Iron Mountain Special. This is how the term “race station” originated, a term that is still used today. Railroad personnel (usually the station manager would release the pigeons the next morning at a specific time designated by the Mount Pleasant Homing Pigeon Club race secretary.

In 1926 the St. Louis Championship Club merged with the Mount Pleasant Homing Pigeon Club. In 1957 the Mount Pleasant Homing Pigeon Club became chartered with the American Racing Pigeon Union (a national Organization of pigeon clubs).

In 1957 the Mount Pleasant Pigeon Club organized with 5 other clubs to form the Missouri Illinois Combine. At the same time, the Mount Pleasant Homing Pigeon Club initiated a junior division, with the old timers mentoring the younger members the do’s and don’ts of the art of pigeon racing.

In 1983 the Mount Pleasant Homing Pigeon Club became a “not for profit” tax exempt Corporation in the State of Missouri.

Today some of the members are third and fourth generation pigeon flyers, their families having raced pigeons as far back as 1894.

Currently, the Mount Pleasant Homing Pigeon Club Inc. is a member of American Racing Pigeon Union Inc., Missouri Illinois Combine, Participant in Sappington- Concord Historical Society, Veterans Memorial Day Event.
